OK I have a 02 F550 it has a Banks chip in it along with turbo and intercooler it always has run strong, but now when you stop dead still and start to go forward it will stall it will crank right back up. If the truck is rolling ever so slightly at take off it will go on no problems. also it wont stall in reverse only in drive. Also about a month before this I was crossing a curb and when the back tires hit the curb the engine died and it took me a while to get it restarted but since then no problems. I have taped around the wires were they plug in at valve cover and replaced the cam sensor and it still stalls.I dont know where to look next. Anyone have any ideas
Yes I replaced it today and its still stalling, Its weird sometimes you can feel it going to stall and if you let off on the pedal it will recover and continue to idle or you can pump the pedal and make it go. Just wondering if its in the pedal
pull the chip and drive it for awhile, see if the problem goes away. fought this issue with a Banks chip before. the unit was 3 yrs old and suddenly it starts dying randomly, hard start, no start. pulled the chip and it all went away. sent the chip back to Gale and they said they fixed it. when i got it back as soon as I plugged the chip in it wouldn't start. just try it for a week ans see.
I agree with Barney. A dead pedal will just make it idle. Pull the banks and see if that doesn't fix your problem. If it does, I'm sure those two guys above can recommend a chip that works better in your 550 than what Gale has to offer.
It sounds like once the engine gets up to temp and the computer goes into closed loop mode, its not liking what it sees from a sensor. Possibly the ICP.
Have you checked for codes? Can you pull the harness off the ICP to see if there's an improvement? Any updates?
Yes, it will run with the ICP unplugged. Without data from the ICP, the computer will use default values from internal tables it has stored. It won't run well, especially at RPMs above idle, but it may run somewhat better if your ICP has gone south.
OK, unplugged ICP and you are right it run crappy I went down road to heat it up and I've been getting it to stall in my driveway I have a swag in it so I can make it pull uphill forward and backward. It stalled again but not quite as bad you can ease on the pedal or stand on it going forward and it will hesitate like it's going to stall and just before it stalls it will pick up and go. That's going forward, it would not do it going backward, the last try I did I went in reverse and hit the brakes and engine stalled so I pulled back up tried it a little faster in reverse hit the brakes pretty hard and engine stalled again and that's where it is now ,dead in the water it will not start back up. The battery light and check gauges light blink on and off will the starter is turning. Its almost like inertia going toward the rear when excelerating or braking in reverse has some roll to play. But I think when I find why it want crank now I'll find the problem. I have had it to stall before if you hit a pothole pretty hard or like I said before I bumped into a curb with the rear wheels the other day and it stalled. Anyone know where to look next? Thanks
Finally found it, I got a good light and went in the top of engine to see if I could find a shorting wire or what ever and low and behold the little tin nut that holds the coil on the IPR valve and the coil had slid off. apparently the nut had been off and every time I went to start off the coil would slid back causing it stall or nearly stall until I hit the brakes hard in reverse and slid it all the way off when it would no longer start. Thanks for all the help I'll do the same if I can.
