I got a check engine light today. Autozone scanned it and got code
0153 which translated to bank 2 upstream sensor. Which side is bank 2? I guess upstream means the one between the manifold and the cat.
I've been reading these boards since I bought my '98EB last october. I have already gotten tons of useful info from you guys. Thanks
First, try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. If the check engine light comes back on after driving the truck a while, replace the sensor. Otherwise, it was probably just a one time out-of-range value that set the error code and is nothing to worry about.
Actually, most code readers can reset the codes in memory without the need to reset the ECU. Resetting the codes will start collecting error data again, with nothing in continuous memory, using the history of driving performance. Resetting the computer will zero out the memory for 'recent driving experience' and start collecting run time data again with no history. The computer remembers the last 80 driving sessions and uses the mean as a way to filter the current sensor data. These data are used, among other things, to set fuel flow and spark for current demand. The manual I have recommends driving at least 10 miles after an ECU recycle with a combination of steady state open throttle (highway speed) and stop & go. It also recommends restarting the engine at least once during this initial 10 miles. If you just reset and continue the way you normally drive the initial data will be biased in favor of that driving. While not harmful, it may just take longer to achive a balance.
