Truck missing need help!!

Ok I got a code PO 304 miss fire on #4. It has been giving me that code on and off over the past year, but the truck has never been missing. The light would come on and I would check it and it was the PO304. To day it was missing something terable. So t o night I changed the cop and it still is missing just as bad. Any idea on what it could be? I put some of the boot grease stuff on it could that be it?

Could be a plug, an injector, bad cylinder, etc...You should check the plug, if its ok then a compression test and cylinder leak down are in order.

Title says "Truck Missing"... Looks like you found it again Try changing the spark plug and see what you got. Make sure you've got juice to the COP just to be safe.

The guy at the parts house told me the wrong one, but I found the right one on this great site. I guess I will try the plug to day. I was just hoping it was the cop it was alot easyer to change.

90% of all problems are maintenance issue.......take a Saturday and $150( a tow fee) and do a tuneup, serp belt(Gatorback), radiator hoses and flush, tranny flush, oil change,

New plugs 30000 miles ago, tanny flush 1000 miles ago. Just never had a cop go bad since I have had the truck.

If the cop went bad could it have fauled ( cant spell) the plug out?

I changed the plug and it did not help. So that is a new plug and a cop on #4. Could it be the injector that gave the code PO 304? I have a friend that is going to hook it up to his computer to see if there was something my Hypertech programer did not read.

A cylinder depends on ignition, fuel and containment sealing in the cylinder..
If any one is missing, the cylinder is in a fault condition.
The miss is detected by the PCM measureing the time of rotation each cylinder adds to the total RPM.
If one cylinder's timed event it too long and out of limits, it is deemed a missing cylinder.
This timing is done by the front crank position sensor each time the ignition event is triggered.
This method can detect any event that lowers the cylinder's power such as from an injector, coil, plug, valve, head gasket or any fault that reduces power contribution to the total.
As well, this method is self adjusting over the life of the motor due to the PCM adjusting the rotation time 'tables' to reflect the average of all the cylinders as they age.
A far cry from the old days of carburation where bad valve sealing meant lowered power, poor fuel mileage and hard starting, fouled plugs etc..
Now it is detected, corrected for for wear and instantly reported for a missing condition.
Gotta love computers and the engineers who design the systems.
FORD is about the best there is at doing this, so far.

Wow thanks Bluegrass 7.
I had a friend bring his computer over and hook it up. It was running fine. I drove it and it seemed to be clearing up and was running good. He checked the cop firing with his computer as well as check vacume leak, fuel presser and alot of other stuff. I think his computer could check about every part of the truck. I am going to drive it awhile tomorrow and see how it does. He also said the plugs looked like they needed to be changed. Based on the way the #4 plug looked. Thanks for all the help guys.
