Yep. They are responsible. Hold them to it. It sounds like guys on here want to let the corporation off the hook, just out of principle. Yeah, sometimes people do take advantage of litigation, but this is not one of those situations. I bet if it were their 7.3 that was trashed, they would not be so quick to let the corporation slide.

IF it indeed is trashed.

See if they would agree to buy you a repair warranty on your engine for a couple years including the deductible and having the work done at a dealership. That way they would know their costs and you would have coverage. But I'd be careful what warranty you would accept. Some are worthless.

thats a good thought....think outside the box!!!

they would know what their cost is and you would have some insurance/piece of mind that if something went wrong it would be covered.

Like he said read the fine print n the warranties....most dont cover seals/orings and such which i would imagine might be the first to go because of the gas.

The legal tenet that seems to apply to these types of situations is... "no harm no foul" ...which means you can only recover for proven damages such as draining the tank and replacing the fuel filter. I suggest getting an "admission of guilt" in writing and hoping for the best!

As can be seen below I got an "admission of guilt" from Wal-Mart which I carried around for years in case I had any problems that I could even remotely blame on their screw-up during my oil change! Also it's a "myth" that a 7.3L PSD won't run with no oil in it because mine started a ran with no oil or oil filter until I could force my way past a tech and get to my truck to turn the key off!

When I fill-up with diesel I always consider it to be a "buyer beware" purchase...and I always take the time to pump a quart in the tank and then pull the nozzle and "smell" to see if the product is contaminated with gasoline! Also if I can avoid it I don't fill from pumps that dispense both gas and diesel from the same unit ...and especially never rely on the color of the pump handle to indicate which nozzle is dispensing diesel!

The tank that was filled with gas at the service station had diesel in it... ie. delussion. Your tank had some diesel in it... ie. more delussion. You ran it only 30 miles knowing you have 'some kind' of problem. ie...'babying it'
Everyday a percentage of people put 'gas' in their diesel cars/trucks by mistake.... runs real crappy until they find the mistake and do something about it. Almost none of the engines 'rolls over and dies'. I have seen a lot of guys dump a lot of 'junk' in their diesel tanks (ATF, cooking oil, ect.) and not think a thing about it. These engines will hold up to a lot.... "if" you have some major problems in the very near future, it most likely was not 'caused' by the gas, it just only helped it show up a lot sooner than it would have to begin with.

If you 'must', have them buy a 1-2 year engine warrenty and go on with your life....

I think that the engine is fine....

What you are up against sucks, I agree with most here that there will be no problem, but if it were me, I would be on pins and needles everytime I started my truck, every noise would stand out. I think I would feel best with the idea of a warranty purchase for you.

Good Luck

I spoke with Jim at Rosewood Diesel. Great guy, definitely easy to talk to and knows his stuff. He said that he would reccomend I send the injectors to him so he can inspect them and particularly check out the "Plunger and Barrell" and the O-rings, other than that he wouldn't worry about anything else. He said worst case cost-wise would be about $400. So that, plus $400 for my mechanic to pull and reinstall, plus the $300 for work already done. Comes to a worst case cost of $1100. That includes a cost of $20/per plunger and barrell assembly IF Jim thinks they were damaged. So, if what everyone on here has said is correct, that total would be minus the $160 for replacing them. He said that with the miles years that are on on my truck, if there was any damage to the plunger and barrell assembly it wouldve come from running this gas and diesel mixture.

This would give me peace of mind and doesn't sound unreasonable cost-wise to get me off of their docket. What say you?

Thanks.

Court is adjourned!!! sounds like a good plan to me and more importantly it sounds like you would be happy and content.

If it makes you feel better, my brother in law did this hisself. He drove to la and back about 65 miles and it started shaken on the way back. He drained the tank got new fuel and is still driving his three years later. I think you should be alright. On my truck I had somebody dump something in my tank that took out the fuel pump four times. I told ford to pull the tank the last time and it eat up everything in the tank. The nylon in the cup inside and other parts. The ford dealer showed them to me. They even changed the fuel filter bowl with the drain. I asked about injectors they said they could say. It has been five years now on my e99 cc lb 4x4 and it runs great, just to easy your mind. Good luck, god bless, Chet

Hey guys,

I just wanted to update everyone on the outcome. I ended up settling with the company for the maintenance costs. I took most of y'alls advice and didn't push the issue. 90% of people that I spoke with said I wouldn't have anything to worry about, and the truck seemingly runs fine. I have even been on a camping trip since then and the truck pulled the same as before. I will admit that I do have a tendency to wonder when my motor seems to be louder at times, but I think that - as always - is more a result of the dead-head #8 injector than anything. I am looking into remedying that sometime soon with an FRx or RR or something. Anyways, thanks for everyone's input. Take Care!
