That will definitely be super sweet if you pull it off. You may talk to Brown Falcon because he had a dually that he converted to single wheel. Different I know but he may have parts or advice. I also have an extra ZF 5 speed if you or anyone you know ends up needing it.
for a 2x4 or 4x4. how much. i also have a auto 96 f350 that i wouldnt mind being a stick too!
ok. so all day at work i was like a little kid on christmas eve. couldnt wait to hit the road. had the gooseneck hooked up and ready to go. drove the 4 hr trip, get there and the damn thing is a automatic. not only that but there was no pan on it. covered in rust and sand. the guys shows up that owns it and is trying to be all friendly and saying "well, i thought it was a 5spd, ill tell you what ill take $100 of the price" i just told him as nice as i could that i had to leave or i was gunna shoot him. i have never been so mad at someone as i was today.

The ZF is for a 4x4 and I have it listed at $1000 to kind of feel it out. Many people are showing interest in it so I expect it will stay there. It may be a little much for used but I know it works whereas in my area they are going for $750 - $800 and up for used with no knowledge of whether or not it runs.
As for your fortune with the 450. You probably handled it better than I would've. I probably would have taken a metaphorical deucer in his metaphorical sandbox. Did you tell him that even $1000 off of his price wouldn't change your application's needs? What a moron. Sorry it didn't work out man.
That does suck for you taking all the time to get there and the bonehead can't tell the difference between a automatic or stick shift.
The only other thing I was going to mention is I found out by someone who did this at work to their truck, if you put a 2wd rear end in a 4x4 you'll get vibrations due to the different offset in the leaf spring perches.
Never even crossed my mind before that they would be different except some gear ratios of course.
Hope everything works out for you though.

Hey redman I live in pipe creek, Texas, do you still have that second zf5? Is it from a 4x4? I have a 96 f250 psd 2wd and I recently bought it. I've done research and it seems like its time for a rebuild on my e40d, but I want to swap it with a zf5. Mostly i want the zf5 for its reliability and the fun in driving a standard.
