#1 , I have a 81' Ford F250 w/ a 351 CLeveland. ---> I need to know the transmission type. The door jam says "k" type. And the transmission itself is stamped with a " S 94 (?) C4 ? C6 ?
#2 The transmission will go into reverse but not forward. I have checked the filter and looks clean. I am looking at the neutral switch now. And there seems to be 2 bolt holes to attach the neutral switch. But behind one of the bolt holes is nothing but a small well. and no threaded hole. To me ,it looks as if it is designed this way ? This may not be the problem of why it won't go into forward, but it seems strange. Cuz the book shows 2 bolts holding the switch in place.
Any ideas on whay this truck won't go into forward would be appreciated. Thx. please write me at wbohn@adelphia.net
Is this an all of the sudden problem, or has it gotten worse over time? My truck had a simmilar problem. I had to rebuild the tranny to solve the problem. The seals inside deteriorated to where it would not build the proper pressure to go. But it too always went well in reverse, but would have to sit and wait for maybe 5 minutes before it would finally slide into forward gear. It kept getting worse and worse until one day I'm sure it wouldn't have went at all. Just a suggestion.
Well, first off, it's not a 351c unless somebody swapped that in, like me. Second, a c4 has a square pan, while a c6 has a notch out of the right rear corner. What does the fluid look like? Is it brown, and burnt smelling, and otherwise really nasty looking, or foamy, or milky? Any of these could point to different problems with different areas of the truck, involving the tranny. If it's a c6, these things are really easy to rebuild, and a kit is only around $60 from NAPA.
As far as the transmission type? It says "k" on the door jam.. Other than that, i really have never edited by moderator around with a transmission. (thx. for yer help

A basic rebuild kit will have all the seals and gaskets to do the job. Also the friction discs, you can order one that comes with the steels ( the plates that go in between the friction discs) But you will need to buy a book that explains step by step the process and some additional odds and ends. Buy the book first and see what all is involved. It will also tell you what special tools you will need. If you get inside and find some damage or wear to other parts you will need to get these separate.
