2003 V10

On a trip this last weekend (~1000 mile round trip) to pickup a jeep from Asheville, NC. Mostly kept it around ~70-75 when I could, didn't really push it that much.

13.8 avg w/empty trailer

12.8 avg w/jeep on the trailer.

Wind drag is your enemy.
My old travel trailer weighed approx 5800 lbs.
The new one weighs just over 8000 lbs dry.
My truck got 9 mpg towing both of them on the same day, same route, same everything. The extra weight made absolutely no difference.
My open car trailer with my Tbird on it weighs 5700 lbs.
The truck gets 11-12 towing that.
It gets 14 running empty.

I'm getting 9.8 pulling my 30 ft toy hauler that weights in at 11800 doing around 70 up and down the New Hampshire / Vermont boarder mountains..
Kinda depressed was expecting 11's years ago i rented a 24ft V10 u-haul in Milwaukee and hauled a flat bed trailer with a 62 dodge dart home to Mass and got 12.2 the whole way. I was not aware the 3 valve hurt mpg so much but the Diesel was not with in the cost limits of the budget..Still love my truck except the seats sucks...

I have a '99 36' motorhome on an F-53 chassis. Gross is about 25,000 towing a 2400# Saturn. I get about 8.25 most of the time, but have the Banks Power Pack with the trans chip and air intake. I came up the Plateau out of Knoxville to Crossville on I-40 in East Tennessee, at 60mph, all the way, passing some autos.

Well I solved the problem. I bought a 2011 F250 CC 6.7 Diesel. Now I have to figure a way to pay for it. Besides all the money I am saving in fuel.

I hear ya! You'd have to do something like 500,000 miles per year to save enough in fuel to pay for a new rig!

At least, that's what I tell myself to minimize the cringing when I fill my tank 2 or 3 times per day on long trips....

I have done the math and I would have to drive 150,000+ miles a year for it to be worth a new truck. If you have the money and use your truck for play rather than to make money I can't blame you for going to the 6.7.

390 HP must make it a beast pulling! Please post back with your mileage with it.

With about 800 miles on the truck since Friday the 21st, best mileage has been just over 22mpg. That was all 65 mph on the highway and around town I am getting 18-19 all city driving (that is by the computer). Haven't towed yet, plan to hook up this weekend but it will just be around town. Will update after I have more towing done. This truck is wicked fast!

Mine is a 99 F350 dw 4x4, 2v V10 and I pull a 35' Avion, 10,000# dry. I take a trip from Ks to Mi every year. I pull 65 to 70 mph and avg 7-8 mpg. At 55 mph I can get 10 mpg. I also have it power programed for 87 oct.

My truck also sees a hit in mpg when having to run that E10 crap. I lose 1.5-2mpg consistently when towing or empty driving.

Wow. Either you are making a serious mistake in calculating mpg's or it's downhill all the way. I tow an 18 ft toy hauler that specs out at 6200 loaded and I get 7.6-8.0 at 55 mph or so. My Dad's 37 ft toy hauler weighs roughly the same as your 30 ft hauler does and his 6.7 Ram diesel gets 11mpg! How do you manage 12.2 towing a car trailer? That's only 2 mpg less than I get empty at 60 mph! Please let me in on your towing methods, because you are doing something magical!
