hey guys, i have a 94 f 150 2wd ex cab. it has a 5.0 and a 5 speed. truck also has 31 10.5 15 tires on it. well i bought this truck over the winter for 600 bucks i threw a trans in it and it runs great. i did a full tune up on it, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, pcv, fuel filter, wheel barings, new front rotors, oil change with new filter every 2500 miles, and a oem replacement air filter even after all this i still can only get about 10-12 mpg. did i do some thing wrong. i am a mechanic and i no ford very well. but i am just out of idea on why my gas mileage is so poor. can any body give me some input? thanks guys
by the way the truck has 248,000 miles on it and about 120,000 on the motor in the truck now and its runs great, but it also seems like it is a bit low on power. i also have no codes when i hook up my scanner no check engine light either.
I'd say you're within range of what to expect with your engine/mileage/trans/body combo. Are you in hilly territory or mostly flat? Hiway or backroads? A lot of those things can come into consideration. I'd think the best you might expect from your truck might be around 15mpg with near ideal conditions. Check your spark plug gap and fuel pressure, too.

im in nj so it mostly flat. and i babay this truck at all time never get the rpms up above 2500 i would that driving it like an old man it would do more like 15 16 mpg. does any one els think that this is about right. i was kinda hoping for 15 16 out of this truck.
Honestly in these trucks idk how much more you can get.
I would try taking it out of gear when no one is behind you on backroads and coasting for a little. Free mpgs there. But honestly other than that idk what else you can do.

Those tires are larger than stock have you recalibrated the speedo?
Does the truck have dual tanks and if so does it get the same milage on both?
have you tried cleaning out the fuel injectors or replacing them. My injectors were working fine with no codes but seemed a little sluggish and bad mpg.... took my injectors out soaked them overnight in injector cleaner and blew them out backward. Also rebuilt them with the RJM kit off link below. Also got a K&N stock style filter.... boosted my 300 4.9L 4-5 mpgs!!!
Paul also has a good point you need to make sure you have recalibrated your speedometer to the bigger than stock tire size. That can throw you off if you are trying to calculate mpg's off a odometer that isn't reading correct distances. Taller tires have a longer rolling distance which will end up shorting your odometer on miles...
WOW i cant belive i dident think of that. i have not yet fix my speedo, and thats mostly were i think im losing miles at. the truck does have 2 tanks but only the back on is in the front spring a leak. i have also ran fuel injector cleaner threw the truck once every 5,000 miles. the truck rans amazing no shaking or nething. guess ill just have to deal with the bad mpg because there is nothing like the older body style of an f150! except the new 2011 ford f 250 king ranch with a 6.7 under the hood. but ill keep dreaming about that truck and enjoy this one for now. thanks for the help guess.
I got a 90 F150 with a 302 and a 5spd with 31's. I get 8 around town and 12ish on the highway, mine is a 4x4 though. I haven't done anything to my fuel injector. So I need to take it out and soak it? or does putting some sort of cleaner in the fuel system do the same thing?
i hvae had good luck with sea foam in the gas tank, but im sure some people will chime in and let you know the best way to go about cleaing your injectors. replacing them isent a bad idea either
