1994 Sterling 10.25 Brake Question

are the brakes on this axle 3 inch or 2.5? i just ordered a bunch of parts and hope i guessed right

Probably need to remove your drums and measure your shoes. The online sources don't tell the differences between the 2.5" and 3" shoes.

d 60 is 2.5 sterling is 3"

I've always measured mine to make sure.....since I can never remember and haven't figured out a sure fire way to know.

good i ordered all 3 inch parts.... doing a complete rebuild on the rear brake system since i did it to the front..... and the rear is shot..... the sterling is the one that has the thing that sticks out of the rim about 6 inches right?

Went through this dilema myself actually and I simply guessed 3". Never did know the different applications until now.

A Dana has the hub that sticks out too. A quick way to check, a Dana has the oil fill plug in the cover, a Sterling's plug is in in the center section on the drivers side just above the cecter web.

yea my axle has the fill plug on the driveshaft input side.... come to think of it i havent seen a drain plug yet..... do you just have to remove the cover to change the gear oil?

the plug is probly filled with mud and dirt. I had to dig mine out with a screwdriver

Yes, drain pan underneath, loosen all the bolts (don't remove completely), gently pry the cover loose without scratching up the surfaces and let it drain. Then remove the bolts and the cover. I've heard you can also tap at the cover with a hammer to loosen it without worrying about scratching up the sealing edges.

on other thing, make sure you put the brake shoes on the right way. I didnt know it at the time when I did mine, but the 2 shoes that go one each side are different. Theirs a front one and a back one.

what other kinda drums are there? ive never seen any that didnt slip on
