Just wanted to introduce myself and my new to me truck. Saw this for sale last week on the side of the road and paid for it two days later. It's an '85 with 134k on it. The previous owner bought it in '88 and pulled his camper to Idaho and back each year. It hasn't been run much in the last 3 years but has been maintained.
I just need to clean up the interior and get rid of the tank in the bed and I'm good to go for now.
Any ideas on what I can do with the Camper Shell and running boards other than Craigslist?
It's a 4x2 6.9L with the 4-speed behind it. New clutch, 4" exhaust, no soup bowl, and updated gp/controller. Not sure on the rear end yet but will look into it. It was re-painted about 6 years ago.
The bench was replaced with captains chairs and a center console set-up. I got a better dash and door panels from the junk yard and will be looking to paint those and some plastic in the cab that is flaking. Also looking to eventually put a bench back in.
Just replaced the stock radio with a Sony (the DIY wiring harness adapter did not match the stock Ford harness). Now I need new door speakers and I'd also like to get the CB working.
That's a super find of a truck. Do you have any pictures of your interior? I'm thinking of doing the bucket conversion and am curious as to how it looks.
I would keep the camper shell. We use ours when we go camping. Other than that, it sits on cinder blocks and awaits the next camping trip. Oh yeah, that's a sweet looking truck, take care of it and it will last you for years.
Here's the interior pics I've been meaning to get. I'm getting to like the seatss and the center console except the cup holders are way too shallow. I need to fix that.
Just bought some SEM paint and the interior should be done soon.

Looks like your console is an older one than mine. If you can find one from the later 90's (not sure of years) they have removable cups in the holders. Pop those out and water/soda bottles fit nice and wont fall over. I'm planning on building a custom console for mine but not because I dont like the original, I just need to implement some electronics for the back seat teenage girls.
