My son was driving his 73 F100 and when he returned home he could not shift out of "D" and the gearshift moved freely. I checked the linkage and everything looked fine. Read a repair manual and thought the problem might be with the shift tube. The mystery part (see picture) fell out as I was removing the column flange. This is a project truck for my son and I and we do not know enough about it yet to identify this part. Any help with its ID or how and where to put it back would be appreciated. Thanks.
First off welcome to FTE! Not sure what the part may be, it does appear to be broken at the top left of your picture. Some more information would be helpful as well. Engine? Transmission? 2wd/4wd? Things of that nature....the more info the better,
1973 F100 Custom, 2WD, 360, C6 Transmission. The part is actually a little larger than my thumbnail. I am not sure if it is associated with the column flange, the shift collar or neither.

That was my thoughts as well, not 100% sure though, if the other 1/2 or part was able to be found, it would be helpful...but if I had to guess, I would go with that as well...
7A216 looks right. The back of the flange is also broken where that piece would probably fit. Thanks for the help! I know where to get a new flange but how to I find the mystery part?
