driveshaft dramas

hey everyone, sorry i aint been on in a while, finally got enough money for my own computer lol.
anyway. i was driving my 1977 4x4 f100 home the other night when it started vibrating like the bejeezus. naturally, i pulled over and checked my tyres, as i suspected a beer bottle some jerk left on the road did them in. Nope, tyres all good, i got back in, took off, about five seconds later BANG!... double cardan joint on the rear driveshaft breaks, hits the road and puts a lovely 90 degree bend in the shaft. to make matters a little more interesting, my handbrake lever decided to fail and my cellphone battery packed up. long story short, i waited in the middle of the road until a damn holden commodore (i think its called as pontiac G8 or something in the USA) pulled me home, only to add insult to injury.
anyhoo, i contacted my local f trucks joint (theres only one decent one i know of in western australia) and apparently a tailshaft off a 78 bronco will do the job. is anybody here sure of this?
i should also mention my old tailshaft has a slip joint and uni joint on the diff side and a double cardan joint on the gearbox side...
any help on this would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Elliott.
