OK Guys ... I know this is probably a VERY Stupid idea, but here's what I'm kicking around. I have a '93 F150 Flareside with a 5.8 and E40D that has almost 200K and it's getting really tired. I've had the truck since 94 and I love everything about it except that at times I could use a bunch more power. I have a chance to buy a 90 F250 Diesel with a 5-speed, that has about 161K on it....and I'm thinking about swappping in the smoker in my truck.
How much of a PIA is this going to be to accomplish and what issues would you expect to encounter?
Someone already did this, they get in the vicinity of 30 mpg when they drive it nice. One of things I remember they had to modify on the halfton was the rad support as the diesel radiator is quite a bit taller, and you can't just use the rad support from the '90 F250 cause that body style and the '92-'96 have different rad supports cause of the headlights and such. I dunno if the build thread is posted here in the IDI diesel forum, but it is on Oilburners.net for sure cause the guy is one of the mods there, so if you can't find it here just go over there and read this...

Ok Thanks I really need this info now! I went out to warm her up so I could change the oil this morning... came back out and she was knocking and spewing oil on the ground.... Guess it's not making the 400 mile run tomorrow
The diesel swap is not something that can be done real quick, and as explained in that thread I linked you to there is some fabrication to be done... if this is your daily driver then you may wanna just buy the '90 F250 and drive it as is, till you have all the fab work to the flareside one so you can just pull engine and trans and swap them in a weekend.
