89 Dual Tank Issue

Long story short, I knew I had an issue with the dual tank selector valve, but didn't think it was a critical issue until tonight. Now my truck is parked in the Home Depot parking lot for the night as it will barely run if at all. Tomorrow morning I would like to bypass the valve for the purpose of getting it home. Anyone know the hose sizes for the pressure and return hoses? It would make the bypass job much easier as I could get to the truck in the morning with all the necessary parts in hand.

Of course I could just buy the replacement part, but all of the local Ford dealers want over $200 for it, so I think I'll wait on that and have it shipped in from a lower priced supplier.

If anyone runs into this problem in the future. The fuel line is not your standard rubber hose with a fuel resistant lining. Given this, I didn't feel like cutting into it and splicing it back together later.

If the dual tank selector valve is in fact on the way out, the easy way to bypass it, is to remove it. After pulling it off the frame rail, pull the valves out of the body, reassemble, and reinstall. This 'fix' gives no tank selection capabilities, but it does allow fuel to flow and gets a guy home. If you need any help with this, feel free to ask for any pointers on the process.

Looks like all of the Ford dealers in my area want $224 for the selector valve. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced source? $224 seems really pricey to me for a plastic body with two valves and a diaphragm in it....

I'd go to a salvage yard before I'd pay $225. I don't think those things fail too frequently. At least I don't hear much about it.

Given the diaphragms and seals involved, I would like to avoid a salvage part as these aren't likely too last all that long. I did find silverstatefordparts.com, which has the part for $120. All the reviews I have found for this site look good. I haven't ordered the part yet, but I encourage anybody looking for a pricey 'ford dealer only' part to check with them as their prices look to to be much better than an actual dealer.

Check out this online source of OEM Ford parts: Tousley Ford Parts Depot

I cross checked prices on three parts against that SilverState Ford Parts source and Tousley had the better price on all three parts.

I shoud also have mentioned that n the past two weeks I've placed three separate order and received my parts at their advertised costs within about 3-5 days, shipped from Minnesota to Alaska. Reliable folks and fast shipping.
