The half ton springs aren't going to have as many leafs as the 3/4 ton but if you were to switch make sure they are the same width. For the front you will need new springs. I am not sure it SD springs fit on a 78 but they make four inch springs then just drop the shackle. Going this big is going to affect you pinion angle and steering so some modifications will be required.

I would check the width of the rear springs under the f150. The f250 would have the 3" wide rear springs. Not sure about the f150 ?

i believe the f150's came with both 2.5'' and 3'' rear springs, so measure first. if they are 3'' wide, then a set of 4'' front springs would probably make it sit nice. super duty springs work, but are not a simple bolt on. if you aren't into fabricating, just buy the correct front springs for your truck

my 1/2 ton rear spring are 3" and have 5 leaves i'm not looking for towing capacity so if they hold up a 1/2 ton they'll hold up a 3/4 ton. as for the front springs if a man didn't want to lower the shackles and bought 6" front springs how much height difference f/r would there be? i was thinking if its higher in the front to flip the rear shackles and adding a shorter block or if it's higher in the rear either using a shorter block or removing it completely.

4'' front springs would probably match the 6'' rears in hieght perfectly.
