Exhaust in cab.

2005 Ford 6.0L
I am getting diesel exhaust coming thru my vents ONLY when the fan/heater/ac is turned on. The exhaust goes away when I start moving down the road again. The fan is sucking it up from somewhere. No fan = no exhaust in the cab.

If I am at a stop and pointing into the wind w/ fan on...no exhaust blown thru vents. If I am at a stop with fan on and the wind blowing up from behind, I get exhaust. Exhaust always present backing up w/ fan on.

I get fresh air coming thru the vents only when the truck is moving forward or is pointed into the wind.

The problem started after one of the blue turbo hoses blew off. Immediately the cab filled up with exhaust. I replaced the blue turbo hose but now I am left with this problem of exhaust coming thru my vents when the fan on.

I had it in to 2 different mechanics look at it. Did the smoke test and all....y-pipe, ect, ect. NO luck! An ideas????

I'm guessing that boot needs to be replaced.

Look over the entire exhaust system, should be the tale tale signs of black carbon at the source of the leak. I have a couple of small leaks at the manifolds but the air flow seems to blow them underneath the truck. Could be the flanges at the turbo from the pipe swinging up when the hose blew off. They are possible now out alignment or just need tightning... You might be able to feel the exhaust leaking but you obviously have to do it right after starting when the pipes are cold.

THANKS. I will feel for exhaust leaks and look for black carbon.

Any other signs that I should look for?

Something else to look at is the rubber seal along the back of the hood. The air intake for the cab is right in front of the windshield and mine was not sealing very well. When I was at a stop you could smell the hot engine, and, at the time the burping coolant. I added a bit of foam window seal along the top of the rubber gasket and that ended the odor. It won't fix an exhaust leak but does keep the aromas out of the cab if they are coming in through the ac/vent system.

Check to see if there has been a CCV reroute and if so did they just disconnect the hose and let it exhaust in the engine compartment?

If not, check CCV system for leaks.

My 03 had identical symptoms - turned out to be a slight crack in the y pipe that was hard to find.

the ccv system looks like it could be the culprit of the fumes in the cab. Besides re-routing the CCV, are there any other easier fixes...such as SeaFoam??
