I am only getting sound out of my 88 Rangers speakers. Its only left with cassette and radio. I occasionaly get it to work if i put it at a certain volume. The problems with this is its really loud and it doesnt always work. Sometimes while it does work if I go over a bump or someone in my car moves the wrong way it cuts out again. So I figure its probably a loose wire. I just dont know how or where to check the connections. I figured yall could help me. Thanks.
check the connections, u might have a loose wire or the speaker wire might be grounding itself out. also, stupid question and not an insult to ur intellegence but is ur fade set to the middle? also u speaker might have blown. does it make a crackle and shallow sound? hope this helps.
Definitely sounds like a broken connection or wire.
Usually a dead speaker will still make sound, just bad sounds.
But that connection could theoretically be anywhere...
Most likely at the radio or the speaker.
I would suspect the speaker first, because the door is constantly in motion, opening and closing, the speaker wires could be moving in the doors, eventually breaking or just becoming unclipped from the speaker.
Nothing really moves around in the dash, but there is a plug back there and lots of wires, so it is possible it might be there also.
Door panels are easy to get off, if you need to to get at the speaker.
Usually there is a screw located in the doorhandle recess, screws located in the armrest, sometimes one behind the sail panel, sometimes ones at the bottom of the panel. You will have to remove the window crank if you have one. Besides that, it's just held on by a bunch of clips.. just gently pry... pop, pop, pop!
The stereo should be pretty easy too. You might have to take some trim panels off the dash surrounding the stereo, usually there are a few screws located in areas not visible from above( that would be ugly, after all), so look from below. Sometimes they hide them places, like the top of the ashtray opening. And it will inevitably have clips of it's own.. pry gently, undiscovered screws won't pop like clips will.
Once you get the trim off, usually there are screws on either side of the unit to remove it. Some newer stock radios are built more like aftermarket decks, and they might have hidden releases (look for little holes in the face, stick sturdy paper clips in the holes), then the unit will slide out the front.
