I was wondering if anyone new any way or any transmissions that bolt up to the FE blocks that are 5 speed mauals it anyone knows of any or any transmission that is has more than 4 gears to it I could use some help.
thanks
Clark transmissions from medium duty trucks will bolt on if you get the right bell and have machine work done on the input shaft. Probably need cross member and DS work. Need a clutch disc for that input shaft too.
NV4500 will bolt up with an adaptor, requires cross member work and probably DS work.
This is a common question. Gas got you down? Keep in mind, a 20% increase in mpg isn't going to pay for this in any short amount of time.
This thread discusses the options, and contains links to other threads with more specific information and to a company with the adaptor and info on the NV4500:
4x4: You'd have to do it twice. (or buy and adaptor for your new trans to TC)
C6: You need a flywheel, bell, etc in addition to the gearbox...
I have 4.10s in my truck with 30" tires. Approx 3000 rpm at 65 mph. I feel some of your pain, as I have a 5th gear already, but I see what you're up against.

Are you thinking another gear might get you better mpgs??
no its just with the three speed tranny it raps like 3500 when im going 55 and id just like it to have a lil more top end speed at a little lower rpm
All non overdrive trannys have a 1 to 1 output ratio. 3spd, 10spd doesn't matter. Sounds like you need a lower number rear ratio but since it is a 4wd both ends.
