My father in law has a 2001-03 and wants more power for towing his 5th wheel.. He spent 8k on a Bxxx's kit that local shops wont install because of smog laws.
What does he need to buy that can sneek by the newer smog laws and give him what he wants?
Anything he installs is going to have to be removed and the stock parts put back on before he gets his smog check. There are a few air intakes that are carb compliant, but that's about the extent of it.
DP-Tuner is on the list trying to get a CARB number from what we hear. I'd say he either needs to learn to do the banks install himself (and hang on to the old parts so he can put them back on) or wait until there's a tuner with a CARB number.
I just managed to squeak through my smog test up here in Washington with the CCV vent blowing smoke in the operator's face.
I told her it was a vent.
That is unbelievable and hilarious. I have to get smogged next May and was not looking forward to reversing my ccv mod. Did you get the operators name so I can request that person? If you fail is there a fee or protocol to then go through?

Depending on the operator, it probably goes like "Are you sure my truck is failing? Mr Jackson over here seems to think everything is fine....."

All they do up here is the diesel snap test and look for smoke coming out of the tail pipe.
They never even open the hood.
You have nothing to worry about, your CCV goes back to the intake after it goes through the trap.

Good to know. Right now I have my ccv venting direct to atmosphere as I had some concerns over possible back pressure. It appears that even if I leave it open air it may be possibly to pass here in WA. Did you get the feeling that if she was a slightly more knowledge operator they would have failed you?
