I just bought one and told my mechanic about it and he told me 6.0s are junk and I shoulda stuck with my trusty 7.3. Maybe i am asking the wrong guys What do you think? Its got 49000 miles in a e350 cargo van.

My mechanic said he just got done working on an '04 with blown heads (or something) with 140,000 miles on it. He said you have to baby it and they are doomed to fail. So, then you think this van will take me a long ways if I keep up on filters and maintenance like my 7.3 or is there something else I need to know?
Gearloose has 250000 miles on his van and it has not been down for any major issues. The vans have been very good. The newer the model year the better. I would put a coolant filter on it, an Edge Insight Engine monitor and a fuel pressure gauge and enjoy the truck. You did not say if the mechanic works at a Ford dealer. If he does, he is part of the biggest problem with the 6.0. Old war stories that have been debunked and resolved are spread by these dopes as fact. Find a tech like Cheezit or Vloney or Matty and I am sure I have missed a few and you will have a good resource to keep your truck happy
Reminds me of that demotivational poster that has a picture of a beat up van with "free candy" painted on the side. At the bottom it says something like: Why Not? This guy looks legit.
So You are telling me I have to throw some pricey parts on this thing to make it go> but keep in mind i am no mechanic. i have no love for turning a wrench. i am not likely to pimp my work van and frankly i can get 250000 out of a 5.4. no sweat(i am almost there in my pickup)besides
around here trucks rust out way before then. Im just looking for low cost of ownership and reasonably easy maintenence
