Newbie says hello

Hi,

I live in Laos and have now become a proud owner of a F250, V8, twin turbo diesel, 2009 model. The truck is a monster. At work we have F450's but they are tame compared to this. The whole family loves the truck - especially my oldest son who just got his license.

What kind of fuel consumption can I expect on the highway averaging 55 mile /h?

Also - there is only 2 load fixing points on the bed. What is my best option to secure cargo?

Why hello there, welcome to the club! Everybody here is really cool, so make yourself at home here, there's Pepsi in the fridge.

As far as mileage, best guess is 10-20 mpg. Reason I say this is because there are a lot of variables involved. Tires, gears, chassis (long bed, short bed, crew cab, Supercab, etc.), engine and transmission condition, performance parts, traffic, and most of all the driver mod. All in all, you should probably might see 14 or 15 MPG average driving unloaded on the interstate.
As far as the load connection, it really depends on what you are towing. Fifth wheel or rear hitch, both are very safe to tow and your truck should not have any problems towing just about anything you will throw at it. That being said, the fifth wheel would be a better weight distribution for heavier rigs, but again there is nothing wrong with the tow behind either. I personally have carried an enclosed with two cars inside with no problems at all off of the rear hitch. Just to make sure, but your truck does have a trailer brake controller, correct?

Welcome to FTE......as far as fuel mileage, the 08-10 models seems to get the worst out of the diesels. But there are many factors, as stated above. When you are out of warranty, then I would start modding to gain some mileage back.

seterik welcome to fte, their should be four load securing points on your bed ,on at each corner down low, if you have a plastic bedliner the rears will be behind round rubber plugs...aslo on top of the bedrails their are flat plastic caps that can be pried out and aftermarket hold downs installed as well

Thanks for the friendly welcome. I have had problems posting from work otherwise I would have sent this earlier. The truck was bought from Lao Ford - they had two sitting in the lot. I got the King Ranch and another guy picked up the HD model. Good price too. The more I drive it the better I like it. Very comfortable and easy to manouver which is important in Vientiane. My kids love it when I pick them up at school - I think they get a lot of milage out of the car as well.
I only have 2 tie downs points - the rear corner ones are not installed for some reason. The bolt holes are theres so should be easy enough. Trying to get a bullbar for it it. The negative side is that the head lights on the truck is not good enough in my opinion and I need a good set of spotlights to be able to see the water buffaloes and farm tractors along the Lao roads. ARB has a nice model called Sahara but very pricey to buy through Ford.
Is there any other brand that can be recommended?

Ford exist in Laos!

Welcome to the land of Fords.

Do be sure you take it regularly back to Ford for service and insist they only use Ford approved oil (CJ-4), Motorcraft filters, etc.

Make sure they don't cheat and use something else.

Good luck.

seterik, welcome to FTE.

Wow, a Super Duty in Laos. A King Ranch? Too cool!

Now I am curious. What emission laws does your F-250 follow? Do you have a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)?

Does the truck require Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel? Was it built in Kentucky, or maybe Mexico?

Does it have a 6.4L V-8 diesel engine?

Not sure about what laws the truck is spec'ed for but there is an information tag saying it can run on fuel with sulphur content up to 500ppm. I suspect is was speced for either Saudi or Russia or similiar. In the engine manual it says there is a filter but have not had a look yet. Not sure where it was built either but I o know it has a V8, 6.4 liter, dual stage turbo and so far I am getting 19 litre / 100 km but tomorrow I'm on a 700 km drive to work and it'll be interesting to see what I end up with. Anyway I did not buy the truck for it gas milage.

Question, is there optional mudguards to the truck? Lao Ford has no clue and the truck sure gets dirty real quick.

No worries about me checking the Lao Ford mech's on service days. I'll be like a three eyed hawk hovering over them.

You can look at the available Ford accessories online.

Ford Accessories |The Official Site for Ford Custom Accessories |FordAccessories.com

Pretty sure they have some mud guards that will fit your truck.
