ARP studs/ EGR valve delete/ tuner
Looking for some opinions here. I have an 06 CC with only 28K miles on it. I was thinking of buying the extended warranty but then I started to wonder if the money would be better spend in correcting the engines flaws. I was pondering having the studs changed before theres a problem. Adding a EGR valve bypass/delete and then adding a SCT with innovative tune. If I can squeeze enough money out of my wife I would also like to do a bypass oil filter. Has anyone done these preventative measures? I know the stock program will throw a code on 2006 trucks for the egr delete. Is there away to get around that. Will the innovative tune overwrite that?
Thanks fellas

I'll leave that alone this time. I don't know if I could go through it this early in the morning.
However, if you are set on one of those options, I would do the bypass. You can still pass visual inspections in case you have to deal with that now and/or in the future.
Maybe yes, maybe no. It depends on the strategy code. However, custom tunes like the one that you are thinking about should be able to disable it. I would just make sure that you stipulate that you have that when you start talking tunes to Innovative. Just in case they don't do that unless you ask for it.

My buddy has a 2007 F350 6.0/Torqshift with 21,000 miles on it. He did the ARP studs, EGR delete, SCT with Innovative tunes, intake, and exhaust. With the EGR delete, even before the tunes the truck did not throw a code. Now his truck is pretty reliable id say, and it sure has plenty of power.

The stock head bolts and gaskets have proven reliable on stock trucks, even with properly written SCT custom tunes. The oil bypass filter will not lengthen the service intervals. The 6.0 shears all oils equally beginning at the first mile. I would spend the oil bypass money on some monitoring equipment. Most change at 5000 miles. I do not see a coolant filter on your wish list. It is the opinion of many here, including myself, that the coolant filter is the best investment you can make for your truck. The Edge insight Engine Monitor and a fuel pressure gauge would be the second best investment.

Here are a couple options for you instead of doing the EGR delete, just make it bullet proof, Ford_Power_Stroke_EGR Also this is the best price I could find on the studs, Rollin Smoke Diesel. 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke ARP Head Stud Kit These are the options that I am doing since the mechanic at the dealership said my truck needs the HG's done. He is going to do the EGR cooler also and since I am the type of persone that likes mine to look stock but be better than stock, I am going with the bullet proof EGR.

I agree that the EGR valve can be made reliable but would require maintenance. But there is more to longevity than "it still works". I have a EGR delete, CCV to atmosphere, no kitty, and butterfly valve removed. The one thing that I have noticed is that the oil stays cleaner MUCH MUCH longer.

Normal driving everything is fine, as soon as I put it under a load (small one) it blows all the cooland out of the degas bottle.
