Paranoid about newest flash!

Had my FICM replaced under warranty several months ago and requested newest flash at that time even took a printout from here showing exactly the flash I wanted. Well since then truck runs great but after a lot of listening for the turbo sweep am convinced it is not sweeping. Have since been to the dealer and asked again if they were sure it had the newest flash and was told it did. What are my options now? Enjoy the truck and forget about it or is there a way without spending a lot of money to make sure?

Do we have a list of flashes somewhere and what they did or where supposed to do.

If you have a SCT x3 you can check your strategy. If you have the latest flash it chould be a VCXF9 I am pretty sure.

The only time I hear mine sweep is hooking/unhooking a trailer @ operating temp or post tow cool down. Other than that I've never heard it sweep. Some people claim they hear theirs @ red lights but I've got a 4" TB and I can assure you mine has never swept at a red light.

What really makes be wonder is the dealership has told several times thay don't know what the version is all they know is they hook there instrument up and it says a new flash is available and they tell it to download it. Does this sound correct? If an SCT will read it why wouldn't theres.

I dont know how the FORD programming works, but in the world of GM, if you dont recieve a disk with the latest software, atleast thats how it used to be when I worked at a dealer, you didnt get the latest reflash files.

I dont know if FORD is web based now, when I left GM they were just switching over.

I say SCTx3 cause thats what I have and know I can see it. I have a OTC Genesis scan tool and I am prettyr sure I cant see it with that. As far as the edge, or banks I cant say for sure. I only think the custom tuners can see it cause thats how the tunes are written...to your particular strategy.

That sounds correct the instrument is self updating, if I have been informed correctly. They just plug it in every night and it updates itself from ford. I believe ford probably made it idiot proof, so the techs couldn't screw it up. Don't know why theirs wouldn't read flash version though.

I seem to remember Vince (vloney) saying that Ford's IDS does not update automatically.....at any rate Mr. teppler my opinion is if you're not having any problems just enjoy your truck and try not to think about it too much.

Actually guys...if you read the TSB it does more than just sweep the turbo vanes...the new strat code should be VXCF9. There are a few DTCs that have been added to the mix that are important....especially if under warranty. Wrench light for variance in temps greater than ? between oil/water (i.e. failing oil cooler), wrench light for variances in volts below ?v (i.e. failing FICM or putting FICM at risk), etc...Ford's IDS software does NOT update automatically each night...it must be replicated by a knowledgeable tech. What they most likely did is just update your FICM and not your PCM/TCM files. I have had a very noticeable low rumble heard while the vanes sweep....just about every stop light, but not every stop light...also while sitting for any longer than 4-5 minutes...same low rumble....so you know that the turbo is sweeping the vanes. Id just ask someone you know who has a SCT and hook it up to verify your strat code....doesn't hurt anything....doesn't take anything away from their device and doesn't store anything to your PCM...just reads it like a scantool would. Personally if I pay for something I want it...and the benefits of this flash were worth it to me.

mine has the latist cal and I dont hear mine sweep very often. the dealer is somewhat correct, the ids says new flash available. the guy operating the computer has to look at a different screen to know what the flash is. most dont care to look as there is no money to be made looking at that screen.
the latist flash for 06 50 state automatic is vxcf9 but it may vary depending on place of sale, year and build

I had my truck in the shop to have the newest flash installed but they could not tell me which code they updated when I asked a month later. The strat code should be VXCF9 but I do not know how to verify it I would like to know what is installed as there are several benefits to this code as mentioned. Is it possible to see this with the Edge insight or what type of reader is necessary?
