I was going down the road the other morning going to school. I was allittle late so i didn't have any time to warm the truck up, so about 3 or 4 minutes into the ride i noticed that there was blue smoke coming out of the exaust. The smoke only lasted for about 15-20 sec onds and it stopped. This is the only time i have ever seen this truck smoke, it only has 75,000 miles on it. Im the second owner and the first owner was my grandfather, who was very easy on it. Any idea what this could be?
That sounds like your valve stem seals are leaking. They get hard and crack and loose contact with the valve stem and a bit of oil will seep through the valve guide into the intake and exhaust. It will smoke blue till this burns out.
It is not a serious matter. Myself, I would drive it that way until a nice sunny warm day comes and I have nothing to do, then I might pull it apart and change the seals. It can be done with the heads on, by pressurizing each of the cylinders as you do them.
