Okay, so as I'm sure most of you are aware, I just a got my first truck and am waiting to get it home to Montana. It's 76 F-150, with a 73 390. So heres my question, what is the best way to do a somewhat cheap performance build on a 390? I've heard making a 410 stroker is a good way to go, or bore to 428... I'm not quite sure I really want, just that all my friends are running subarus and I'd like to at least stomp 'em on a drag.
As was suggested in another thread, a staight up timing set apparenty makes a huge difference even with the stock cam. Look for Kennewicks(?) posts, the Cloyes set he reccomended is like less than $50.
Headers and dual exhaust will help it breath and sound good too.
ps, if you intend to race your buddies, make sure you do it in a straight line , pickup trucks in general and particularly these older trucks dont handle like sports cars, they get real squirrely in the rear end, dont ask me how I know
