I was troubleshooting why my battery wouldn't charge and found an in-line fuse holder that was broken. It is on a yellow wire that goes from the V-reg to the battery side of the starter solonoid. This fuse is not on my wiring diagram so I thought I would make everyone else out there aware of it. If anyone knows what this wire actually does for the charging circuit please let me know.
I have never seen an inline factory fuse installed, usually it is current limiters.....maybe a previous owner replaced the limiter with a fuse??
The yellow wire is a feed of the alternator/battery voltage to the regulator. It appears to be a circuit that tells the regulator how much voltage to send to the field circuit of the alternator. Thus controlling the voltage output of the alternator.

Yeah I have never seen them either but there is three of them in various places in the engine compartment. I am going to replace this one and investigate the others later.

Is that the thick red wire that runs from the battery post on the starter relay, across the cowl to the driver's side, down to the frame rail, and then back somewhere? If so where does that wire end up? I have tried to trace it but loose it in the frame rail.
Yeah that's it. There's an inline connector by the steering box where that wire connects to the harness down by the frame. It then makes it to the camper special connector between the bed and frame rail.
There is another inline connector by the steering box that is a tap from the marker lights, it too makes it to the camper special connector.

Is this connector about 2"X3" and bolts to the top of the frame frame about a foot back from the cab on the drivers side? I thought that this was some sort of ground block.
Originally posted by BBB Guys, there's a couple of factory inline fuses in that area if you have an amp gauge and another one for the camper special harness.

Yeah there were some on my CS also, they protected a red wire that fed 12 volts to the "camper special block" on the frame rail behind the cab. I removed all that wiring as I never used it and figured if it was gone there would be less chances of problems.
What I meant was that I havent seen any inline fuses in the yellow wire in the voltage regulator circuit, or any in of the power feeds to the fusebox. I have always seen current limiters.
Sorry for the confusion I will just have to learn to be more specfic when I write
Originally posted by BBB Yes it is. Mine still has the mating end plugged into it. It's just a short harness that ends and you splice in all your connections.

Went and looked at it again. Didn't look like any where to plug anything in. Then I was messing with it and a cover came off one end and I could see the connector then. Kinda cool that after 35 years the cover that probably came from the factory was still on there.
