Hi, I have a 1995 5 speed one ton with a mere 61,000 miles, I foolishly loaned it to a friend and it came back with about a 1/4 turn of slop in the wheel. I tried the adjustment on the box, but it didn't help. Then it started to be a bitch to turn left, like the power steering pump was out. Took it to the shop and they said the steering box was wasted. My question is: could going hard over in 4 wheel drive cause this type of damage? My friend is claimin "old truck" and not at fault.

fluid was probably low, or bad fluid.
People never change the PS fluid.
Could be other strange things as well. most people just always turn to sharp with a 4wd truck too often. i've heard that can do bad things.
