I have a 2004 F250 super duty diesel 4x4 with 45k miles. When starting from a stop-slow speed-turning hard left or right, there is a binding feeling in steering column similar if your 4 wheel drive is engaged and turning on a dry surface. In this case 4 wheel drive is not engaged. A friend looked at the steering box and said the shaft coming out of steering box has a good deal of play??
I suctioned the PS fluid out and refilled with ATF. I drove it for a week and did it again. It made a big difference. Problem is gone and it steers much easier. Also if you have greasable ball joints keep them greased. This wont help if you have the wandering problem though. If you have wandering it may need a redhead gearbox.

ever happen to anyone?? My 2007 F350 CC KR lost all steering. Something in the box let go. The steering wheel and shaft turns but nothing in the box. Thank God I stopped the truck w/o hitting anything.
