Firearms and Fords?

First, I'd like to introduce myself to everyone here, this is my first post. I just stumbled across this amazing site after I picked up my 1996 F-150 CENTURION last month and have already gotten alot of help by just flipping through the threads. This is a really amazing community and I hope to contribute in the future.

My problem.....

I know the number one rule of not having your firearm messed with is always having it on you or locked down. But I do alot of driving here in the great northwest and would like to know that I can get out of my truck and get something in the gas station without one of my friends or my wife's family trying to play with the big bad Texan's gun.(In case you're wondering, I am a devoted redneck who moved up to the Seattle area for my wife.)

My question....

If you carry in your truck, how do you go about securing it where it is safe but still accessible? I have seen a few "car safes" that bolt to the floor. Are those dependable? Any recommendation or suggestions....or stories would be appreciated.

Thanks much,
Aaron

Thanks Lazy K,

That's pretty close to what I'm looking for. Have you ever used one or seen one installed?

Unfortunately I have to answer no to both questions. Just going on what I`ve heard.
If you have a carry concealed permit then best thing is to never let it leave your person. If not then what you propose is the safe and responsible thing to do.
Hopefully you will get more advice on the subject as plenty of gun enthuiasts on here (including me).
PS, What about a few pics of the truck?

i vote for a carriage blot and a R-pin (hair pin) and stick it to the dash that way people think its bolted down and if u need to shoot some out standing citizen u just pull the pin and take the bolt out

spray n' pray lol

You need to check your local laws about carring a gun in the car , here in florida any person that has a gun , can carry it in the car loaded , it just has to be in the glove box , or anything with a lid on it , zipper bag is fine . If you have a carry permit you can just take it with you , when i don't carry mine i lock it in the glovebox , or you could install a gun safe like lazzy k said .....Lew

Trigger lock for starters. Not leaving gun loaded.

Install a glove box lock if you dont already have one. I agree with the cocked and locked from LEW. make sure your kids dont get the key. Good luck.

My dad did the safe thing when he had my truck. It was bolted to the floor in the back. Did the same thing when he got his new truck. an yeah cocked locked an loaded is the way to go an empty gun ain't any good. And do check your local laws so you know what you can an can't do. I think a safe in the truck is a good idea cause like around here you can't carry a gun on school (college included) or govt property so when you have to go on it an your carrying you can lock it up. Sorry for the long post my dads fully into the 2nd admendment and stopping them from taking more of our rights an apparently got me into it too haha

A gun locked in a safe, or locked to the floor or locked in anything is no more effective than an unloaded gun. A gun cocked an loaded is; with all due respect, just plain stupid. I guess I'm more paranoid about a gun falling in the wrong hands or accidentally discharging than actually needing the gun.
