Hey guys its been a while since Ive been on here. I still have my 97 and runs good but starting slow. Had batteries and Alt go out. But still starting slow/long crank. I checked the HPOP oil level and fuel pressure both are good. My question is does the fuel pressure bleed off after the truck is shut off or will it hold the fuel pressure? I have a leak and finally found it, Yep is the fuel restriction sensor, so getting plug tonight. At idle I have 60-75 psi fuel pressure with the shim, but when you shut it off it quickly bleeds down to 0psi. But if it does bleed down how quickly should it build up? So the starts are getting longer and cant tell if the starter is slower or not. But if you shut it off and start it right back it seems to pop off quickly like normal. Just trying to figure it out before i go spend $100s of $ on starter or what ever it is thats not the problem.
Charge the batts. Get it running, test the alternator. If those are good, i would say new starter time and if its still the original starter at 253k, i would say its definitely time.
I have the same problem with the 0 psi. I must have a leak?? But it takes several several cranks to get the pressure up if at all. I think its a pressure problem. I have a [new] autolite rebuilt starter and 850 amp/hr batts. They may be old but they'll crank for awhile.

When you trun the truck off you will not have fuel pressure because it has a manual fuel pump. the ENG must be spinning for the pump to be working.
Im waiting on starter to come in, Ordered it to save $60. Should be here today. But when I started it this morning, still a slow start but now its acting like ICP sensor is bad again or at least thats the code its throwing. And if you clear it the truck dies. But if you leave it on with check engine light runs fine. So Im thinking the IPR is fine just bad sensor?

Try unplugging the ICP and start it and see what happens
Installed new starter, what a world of difference. I unplugged ICP runs good but shifts hard. Plug it back in and it will run but if you rev it up to say 2500rpm and let off it will die. Unplug the ICP rev it up let off and drops back down like normal. So ICP is dead right?
The wires should be good i think. I had a direct plug in style 10K so no mod to wires or sticking wires into the plug. The prongs on the ICP look good and arent bent down.
Well $177 +$17 tax for the stupid little sensor were going good again for now. P*sses me off because that sensor wasnt very old at all. But long as Im going again $200 is better than a truck payment especially since I love these older 7.3s. Wish they would go back to them in the newer trucks. only one issue i have with this truck is it doesnt have 4 doors. Other than that Id never get rid of it.
