yeah, that's not what I wanted to wake up this morning. God have mercy and be with the families. At least they went doing something they loved. That's something we all hope for.
Ya, I was thinking the same thing this morning...I believe it was on January 29th,1986 that the Challenger tragedy happened...
17 years, 3 days...I'm sure the conspiracy theorists are busy right now...
I remember that day all to well... I was in eighth grade...working in our computer lab at school when the news broke out...all we did the remainder of the day was talk about it in our classes.
Me too. I remember it well. I blew the clutch in my brothers truck while plowing. He was sick in bed so I did his accounts. After I finally got back home, that was when I heard the news. Jake.
I also remember the Challenger, I was 5 years old. I didn't understand why my mom was so upset, I was a little kid, and all that fire just kinda blended in to me, I didn't realize anything was wrong.
I just read an article yesterday about how well the machine was performing, and how pleased the scientists were about the mission and the machine's state of repair.
Doing something I love comes in second only to dying in my sleep at old age for best ways to go in my opinion. These men and women will be missed and we will pray for their families.
Thankfully, as the President said, they have come home to the Lord.

Conspiracy no (not in my book).
However much of the "general" public, and "SOME" of the major corporation's (their associated and collective lobbyists and "GREED-ists" - specifically, that in part, FUND these monumental, momentous and MASSIVE undertakings), IMHO, are lacking in their regard for the "virtually" incomprehensible nature of these feat's - these "mission's".
The Challeger tragedy WAS PREVENTABLE! - Something in my gut tells me the same will apply in this latest tragedy, of the Columbia, and far more importantly, her crew of hero's.
May God bless their families, and rest their souls.
Perhaps, again, obviously just one opinion, and I'm open to take heat on it, but perhaps this is a "sign" to s-l-o-w down on the space-"race" (?).
It was a beautiful and sunny day here in Rochester, that Tuesday morning in January, 1986. That was my day off, and I remember hearing on the radio that the Space Shuttle was going to lift into orbit from Cape Kennedy. No matter how many times it had gone into space, I always got such a thrill watching it take off. I'd go out of my way to catch a shuttle launch. So, I turned on the TV to watch it live...........
I'll never get over the horror of watching what I did that day; moments like that have a cruel way of staying with you the rest of your life. Then, this morning- what can one say except that our hearts go out to all the families of the Columbia crew, and all their devoted co-workers at NASA. Our president said it most eloquently:
"Although the Columbia did not return safely to Florida, we know that her crew members have returned Home."
