My F250 is the first truck i have owned with locking hubs in the front. My last truck, a chevy, was shift on the fly. My question is....Do i have to lock the hubs every time i go into 4x4? That is the way ive done it so far, but i noticed the 4x4 light come on when i turn the **** in the truck even without locking the hubs.......Can someone clarify this dumb question for me.
No you don't have to physically lock the hubs in. When they are in "Auto" on the hubs just turn the **** on the dash and your good to go it's still shift on the fly. If your having problems with vacuum leaks then the great thing about the Fords is the ability to manually turn the hub to "lock" and then shift on the fly by turning the **** on the dash.
your hubs have two selections auto and lock, if you just turn the **** inside to 4x4 while your hubs are in auto here is a vacuum pulse engaging your hubs, if you get out and manually lock them then there is a more mechanical connection locking your hubs
