we did this comparison a few months ago, but ill post it up for everyone.
the piece is a metal cover off of a dirtbike. it was sandblasted and washed. an even coat of rustoleum primer. hit the one corner with rustoleum and let it dry. then hit the other corner with duplicolor and let it dry. you can clearly see the difference.
rustoleum does not have UV blockers in it, that is why it fades.
but it does have rust inhibitors in it. that is why it is used in places where shine is not important.
duplicolor has UV blockers, but no rust inhibitors. it is made for automotive paint spot repair.that is why it keeps it's shine.
2 different paint blends for 2 different applications
I just bought a can of Duplicolor Oxford white to color match my new stone deflector for the front of my truck. I gotta say I'm not impressed with it. It's spray pattern is vertical so it didn't cover very well, and it dripped on the piece as I was painting.
I ended up using Krylon white, and it matches my color better than the Oxford white. I was told this is the right color according to the paint color code on the truck.
I may try using the Duplicolor as the 3rd color coat before I put 2 coats of clear on.
i didnt know that exactly, but i knew there was a chemical difference. i figured this would save some people some time. instead of buying rustoleum for touch up work.

Okay, that makes sense. What would happen if you put a coat or two of Duplicolor over a couple coast of Rustoleum?
At work they use McCormick Inter-lock paint, on all the outside stuff. A couple times a year they come in on the weekends and spray paint all new work with a clear anti Graffiti paint. I think it's by Duron. Doesn't fade and is extremely durable.
BTW Are you sure you didn't get a can of Rustoleum Hammer Finish?

I realize this is an old post but the Duplicolor Oxford White matching problem keeps happening year after year.
I too have an Oxford White Ford (Aerostar) and I tried Duplicolor's Oxford White; No match, not even close. Then I tried Krylon Fusion Gloss White and the match was good.
BUT I discovered there's an even better match for Ford and GM Oxford White:
AeroTech RUST RX #101 Gloss White made by Aerotech Products
try it! you'll be amazed.
forget Duplicolor for any of your car paint needs, their "perfect match" advertising is false and irresponsible advertising, eventually they'll go out of business for fooling consumers. If it was a problem with ONLY the Oxford White it would be one thing, but the problem is with EVERY COLOR, nothing matches, even with new cars!

really?? we use it all the time for small touch-ups at the body shop. never had a problem with a miss match in over 25 years of use. .
