i got to admit it took a little while to get used to the front end on my 08' but i grew to like it... went to look at 11's over the weekend, like them to !
i can see why ford put the grille back on the body, looks to darn easy to damage that wide open ac condensor or radiator on the 08'-10's with the hood up...one slip and ouch$$ !!
In fact, in my opinion, any truck that tries too hard in its appearance looks stupid.
Trucks look good when they look "functional". My favorite looking truck is a Series I Land Rover for example:
I definitely have to agree with this. Sure it is just the front end, but i really dislike the design. First off the grill looks like braces or something and second the headlights are way to big and "plasticy" looking, and i am a diehard porsche fanatic so usually large lights are just fine with me. I got my hands on an 08 because i was predicting this new trend in design. Lets see...the tundra; the whole front end is inflated or something and the overall lines are too rounded for a truck. Ridgeline and avalanche...need i say more? i personally love the 08-10's they look like a truck: bold aggressive and tough, not rounded soft and gay. All of this is what led me to ford and to a diesel so that there will me no need for me to worry about getting a new truck in future.
I like the way they look. Although the 78-79 has a place in my heart. When they went to the SDs they trucks got too bloated all around. They are super sized. Full size in the 70s, 80s,90s were f150,250,350. Now there is the f150 then the GIGANTOR SuperDuty.
Man, to I agree with that! The '78 and '79 were the best looking Ford trucks ever, and sadly the last with decent thickness sheetmetal.
The '11 looks a lot better in pictures than in real life. The front end is just messed up! My only complaint with the '08 is the straight bumper. If it just had the curves of the earlier bumper then it would fix it.
Despite all this it still looks better than a Chevy.
i saw a couple of 11's saturday at my local dealer. two things stuck out right away. the front emblem on the grill is HUGE!!! and the other is the big fuel door. i opened it and there is a diesel fuel cap and the urea fill cap. i wonder if the gas trucks have the same fuel lid?
i wonder if the gas trucks have the same fuel lid?
I assume they would. I don't think Ford would make two different beds, each with a different size lid, just for looks.
I thought the 2011 had potential when it came out, but after seeing them in person, my outlook changed. The 2011 trucks are too "in your face." It seems Ford wants to make sure everybody knows that the (hideous) vehicle that you're looking at is a Ford, mainly by the use of the obnoxiously large front emblem.
