That's the word that first comes to my mind. It looks like a front end that might have been designed by Cadillac. But hey, everyone has different tastes...
I agree with the ugly comments, the oven grill just looks tacky, IMO. but then again we tend not to like things that are drastically different than what we are used to seeing. If the movie were real, the people in the 1950s would be puking over the Back to the Future DeLorean. I remember when the Lamborghini Diablo first came out... UGLY! Then I grew to love it, right around when the Murcilago came out, which I also thought was ugly and grew to love (might have something to do with the fact that I got to drive a Gallardo though )Now they too have grown on me. It is sort of like the manufactures give us just enough time to love a vehicle and then they change it to something else.
The problem with the 08'-10' SDs IMO is the headlights. The grill is a little large but its not too bad, the chrome grills anyway. The headlights just have a droopy eyed look to them and Ford could have done better in the design. There are some aftermarket lights that make the truck look better and not droopy eyed. The 11' look good except for the massive grill, massive headlights and birdbath in the hood. I think Ford went way overboard with the boldness of the grill and the size of the headlights on the 11'. The 99'-07' was definatly the best years for SDs (look wise) to me.
I don't really care about looks. It has to run and run well. And not be owned by Obama......
im with you!!! everyone talking about the looks (sounds like women discussing shoes), the drive train is the most important part, i will take the ugliest truck with a robust drive train any day
the only vehicle i purchased for looks was when i was 16 years old
but, yeah, these new body styles are fugly (08-11)
Imma throw my opinion in. I think they're getting uglier (that's all relative as they're still better looking than the rest of the trucks, amd they're still good looking) as they're getting a long. The best looking ones were the 90s, second best in the 99-04. (tied really for first). I like teh '05-07 btu the grills are a bit big. '08s are growing on me, but I really do like the '11. The interior is flat out awesome. The only thing I'd want them to do is get rid of teh black valence at the bottom. I'd drive the hell out of it, even if I couldn't remove that valence.

just throwing this out there, but their drive train(diesel) is unproven in the hands of the general public, and i will feel that way until i see one with 150,000 miles on it without major incident.
I like the way they look. Although the 78-79 has a place in my heart. When they went to the SDs they trucks got too bloated all around. They are super sized. Full size in the 70s, 80s,90s were f150,250,350. Now there is the f150 then the GIGANTOR SuperDuty.
Those are the best factory towing mirrors available. The 99-07 mirrors have a useless piece of curved glass at the bottom... the '08-10s have a useful convex mirror underneath the flat mirror that eliminates any blind spot that used to exist.
The '08's were the first ford truck that I would admit to liking the look of, the rest had too many curves. In '08 they went back to edges and planes, with a radiator that all but eliminates any cooling issues.
I own an '08 regular cab XL without a single piece of chrome on it... beautiful pickup. Not like a tadpole at all, but reminicent of the days before extra cab space, and more cargo capacity.
Every year they make a change to the trucks I cring. The flip up grill was the worst thing. The radiator makes a nice boot print when you step up on the bumper to service the engine.
The 2011 trucks have some nice changes to them. Regular radiator mounted grill, wrap over the fender hood and the smaller emblem on the fenders is nice. The new guages are better looking too.
I dont like that they changed the body lines on the fenders and bed. But that was bound to happen!
I look at hundreds of these trucks every day. And to be honest they grow on you the more you see them.
Will I run out and trade in my 2004... ummm no way!
the only vehicle i purchased for looks was when i was 16 years old
We are talking about looks, but I don't think any of us who despise the grille would switch brands because of it. If I won the lottery I would be at the dealer today ordering a new SD, but I would do something about the grille ASAP!

it sure is nice for the grill to get out of the way when you open the hood... Just don't step on the radiator...that's what the step on the bumper is for...
