I think I am about to have auto tranny problems. Last week I was driving down the highway at 65-70mph at night and my transmission temp started to steadily rise. I normally run 125-130 degrees but it rose to about 160. When I turned off the highway the truck started to shutter from the drivetrain. I shifted into neutral to make sure it was not the motor and it was running smooth. About two miles down the road the shuttering stopped but it was still about 160 degrees. Everytime I have driven the truck since the temp will rise higher than normal but the shuttering has not returned. The fluid has a slight burn smell but is still bright red. Now that I have that out of the way, my question is, what would be my best course of action. Is it possible the torque converter is starting to fail because the tranny seems to shift fine and the OD light is not on or blinking. Would you guys rebuild the tranny while it is out, replace the tranny with a reman, just replace the converter, or what. For those who have build their own, would you recommend it. I am mechanical inclined enough to attempt it (I think) as I have built several chevy race motors and rebuild a direct drive dirt late model transmission. The truck has 215000 miles and has a Ford reman tranny in it right now(don't know how old it is I got the truck with 117000 miles). Sorry for the book I just wrote, thanks for your help. Adam
