Have a problem with truck throwing bad coil codes and mis-fires. Friday started running rough-CEL came on, figured another coil gone bad, used my OBD II scanner and found #2 coil out. Put new one on, ran fine about 10 min. and did it all over again. I got fed up and replaced every coil Sat. and now it runs rougher and is throwing codes for #2 and #7 coil. my truck is a '06 f250 4x4 w/5.4 and a flowmaster is only mod. It has 103.000 miles on it ,new plugs put in at 99,000 mls. change oil, air,& fuel filters regulary . Talked to Ford service guy ,he said " clear codes (I did),reset computer (I did) and may have to reset cam timing (did not do). Had a coil go out last year and replaced without a problem. Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.
X2 on the Motorcraft plugs. They are the only ones that I use. Coils do tend to go out from time to time, especially after 100K or so... this seems to be the general age for coils.
shop just contacted me and said the coiled wire in the boots on the #7 plug was twisted and not making good contact. said they replaced boot , cleared codes and drove it a mile, everything seemed fine. I said good , now please drive it at least 10 miles and see what happens , because thats when things went wrong after replacing the # 2 coil. waiting to hear back.
o.k. apparently two of the springs in two of the boots got twisted in my haste to put them on to get my daughter moved. shop did a 30 mile test drive without a hitch and ready for pick up. and yes i feel like an *** for this blunder. i love this truck and it appears that if i take care of it, it may last awhile, (with the prices of brand new ones), i need it too. thanks for the input .
Glad you got it fixed. At least it was small and fairly cheap. It is the tiny stuff that you overlook that just really bugs the crap outta you, isn't it?
