So the mechanic called me today and said that he is having a hard time figuring out if I have the 18mm or 20mm dowels. He doesnt want to order the wrong parts. I figured that since I have an 07 they would be 20mm but he said some do and some dont, therefore we are in a predicament. I say order both and send the ones back that he doesnt use but ford doesnt see it that way I guess. Hopefully he gets all his research done in time to get the parts here by the end of the week and get my truck in on Monday. X (thats for I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

He has the truck and a VIN. What more does he need??? If he has the truck torn down he can measure---it's not rocket science--LOL.

He figured it out. If you have the non flexable oil return tube on the turbo and the one piece intake tube from the air cleaner to the turbo you have the 20mm dowels, I have the 20mm dowels.

Umm. I don't think that's right as I have both of them and 18 mm dowls.

I hope he is right, I dont want my truck down for waiting on parts, that would **** me off. My friends 06 doesnt have either. Course your build date could be after his and before mine also. I guess I will find out forsure next week when its tore down. Will it hurt to cut the scoop out of my up pipe while its apart?

Truck goes under the knife on Monday, here is a list of what the mechanic is going to change: Head gaskets, EGR cooler, Oil cooler, STC Fitting and add ARP studs. Should be done by next Friday, as long as nothing goes wrong. I hope my luck changes and this doesnt ever happen again.

They were the 20mm ones. I checked it out last night since he had the heads off yet and low and behold the gaskets were blown. I had a feeling that the 2 radiator caps and the degas bottle would not fix it. At least its getting done right now. I watched him straight edge my heads and there was one spot on both heads that he could squeeze 1½ thousands feeler gauge under but not all the way through, it was no where near where the gaskets blew. The heads are back on and the oil cooler and STC fitting get changed today. Then the daunting task of putting it all back together.

No, he did not cause it says up to 3 thousands, I hope that doesn hurt, what do you think. I posted some pics of the gaskets and other things. I guess I should say that the 1½ thousands wouldnt go under the straight edge, it would try to lift it and the 1 thousands would go under in one spot but not around the piston area.

I dont know the specs, but if you ask me I would want the heads to be perfectly flat. If not you run the risk of hg failure again.

Just got off the phone with the mechanic, he is absolutely confident they will be fine. He said 1 thousands isnt enough to do even worry about. He said if they were 2 thousands he would have had them machined. Hopefully my confidence in my mechanic is true, and I am sure it is, since he also owns a 6.0.
