03-06 Navigator Console

Hi,

I am considering purchasing either an Expedition or Navigator, in the 2003-2006 model range. On the Navigator, can the console in the middle row be removed without too much trouble? The plan is to have two car seats strapped to the captain's chairs, and my four year old will have to make his way back to the third row.

We looked at an '05 Expedition Limited with no center console, and it seemed like that would be the best configuration. But the console seems like it would be handy to have at a later date when the number of car seats drops down.

If it were me I'd stick with the full bench in the middle row, I wouldn't want to use that third row as a regular seating position. It is about a foot away from the lift glass and pretty much right in the crumple zone. A rear ender, even a small one could potentially make it to the seat. I'd rather have my loved ones 6 feet from the back. Just my .02.

I wasn't sure if the Navigator came with the bench at first, but now I see a few that have that option. I'll have to keep my eyes out for one of those.

The whole reason I began this search in the first place was to find a seat wide enough to accommodate three car seats. The irony was that anything wide enough for that had a third row anyway, but you are probably right about it being safer in the middle row.

I'd still like to know if the console is removable, and how difficult is that to do? And with regards to the bench, I know that the middle seat can slide forward, but is it removable?

yes, the middle seat is removable. a friend took his out and basically has captains chairs without the arm rests. he ordered the captain chair floor mat set from ford and now you can't even see the holes the bolts left behind.

03-06 Navi's with second row captains chairs may not be able to be removed if you have power running boards. My understanding is the motor for them is under the console. My 04 has a second row bench but no power running boards.
