auxiliary fuel tank for expedition
Hey all,
Anyone heard or seen and auxiliary fuel tank for 03 expeditions? I frequenly take long road trips and now I have a trailer to pull and would kindof like the convenience of another tank like the big boys have. I've seen alot of aftermarket ones for pickups and i hate to get a new truck when my current one runs like a top.

I find it hard to concieve a second fuel tank on an Expedition or Navigator when it already costs around $100.00 for a fill up now. Two tanks would be just too painful.
If you feel that you must have a second tank I would suggest that you study some of the Ford trucks that have them and see what fits, or looks like it would fit, then you would have to look for a place to have another fill opening in your truck, a location for an electronic valve to switch tanks with and the attending wiring as well. This would be a major project and I don't think it would be worth all the effort. But then again you didn't ask if we thought it was a wise modification so I've put my $0.02 in. for what it's worth. < you will be.

If it takes me 120 gallons of gas to get from A to B then I still have to pay for 120 gallons whether I have to stop 4 times or 2. I would like to not have to stop so frequently. Im not to afraid of the project, I just wanted to know if it exist already before i fabricate something in my downtime. My last cadillac i put a cooler under the rear middle seat with a drain leading under the car just because I was bored and started to install heated and cooled cup holders before my old neighbor ran through my garage door pushing my car into my mans den in the basement.

It is certain to be an interesting project and I hope you take a lot of pics from start to finish as there will be more than a few here that would like to do a similar project. I imagine the parts would be available from the F150s or the F250s if the frames are not too different. The big thing to me would be to make it look like it came from the factory and that would entail a good bit of body and paint work. If you have the option of relocating your spare that would be a natural location. You could do a '60s style fuel filler behind the license plate.

I think you will find that pick up beds sit higher on top of the frame rails than an Expedition, which sits around the frame rails. The tanks on pick ups are mid ship and utilize the space that the bed is above the rails. Have you considered what might happen to a tank in the spare tire well should you get rear ended? Strikes me like a long run with lots of cost and effort for a marginal solution.
