Fuel Injection vs Carb

I got a 96 f150 4x4 5.0 with automatic. I was thinking of changing the fuel injection out for carburetor. And was wondering if this is a good idea thanks.

It's actually a terrible idea for many, many reasons. All of which you will find with a search as this gets brought up all the time.

All all the major things over 100+ years of cars/trucks flue injection ranks as one of best overall. Getting the flue as close to where it will be burned along with the constant feedback from the O2 and other sensors gives more power, MPG and cleaner air.

I can't wait for direct gas injection to become more widely used.

You want to do this why?

Your vintage truck has a nice EFI system , i think going to a carb on a DD street driven truck is a big step backwards , is there anything wrong with the injection system ??? ...Lew

Your truck is already MAF (aka mass air) vs. the more primitive SD (speed density) system. Look at all the posts from people trying to get to where you are. You could make a lot of mods to the truck (cam, bore, stroke, port&polish, new heads, new intake, turbo/super charger) before you'd reach the limits of what that EFI system can handle. Also, you'd have to figure out how to control the transmission since right now it's integrated into the computer.

Keeping the EFI really is a much better idea.

I'm voting for "keep the EFI" and it's not even close.

I was raised on carburetors so it hurts a little to say it, but the Mass-air EFI you have is as good as you're ever going to get. It's an amazing system for a DD and I'll second the recommendation to look at all the posts inquiring as to how to upgrade to the EFI you have. It can adjust itself to take advantage of any bolt-on upgrades you might have planned, and can even support major upgrades and artificial lungs too.

The only case that you'd benefit from a carb is if you were going to run a 600-HP small block that is only driven at the race track. I would not want to try and wake that beast up at O-dark-30 on a cold morning, though!

The good news is that if you decide to do it anyways, there are a lot of people who would love to buy the discarded parts from you!
