New owner 2006 6.0 Question
Finally pulled the trigger on this 2006 LWB Crew Cab 4x4 FX4 F350. It has 85000 Miles on it and it has been used as a truck should but mechanically taken care of. I have started doing all the services to make sure they were done correctly with the correct stuff. Question is: What brand/Type engine oil is the most trusted. Some I understand is just preference but some I'm sure the 6.0 dislikes.

I do oil changes about every 5000km and use WalMArt Premium diesel 15-40. I also use Canadian Tire 20 litre pails of 15-40. Personally, I haven't heard of anyone attributing engine oil failure to the brand of motor oil used. I have heard of neglect causing issues, but not brand name being a factor.
make sure you flush tranny, and maybe think about both diffs & transfer case soon.

lostru, welcome to FTE and congratulations on the new to you truck.
I would recommend that you utilize the forum's search feature and you will find more than you care to read regarding oil brands and weights. You will find that everyone has their own opinion and that there really isn't any consensus except that you should use a diesel rated oil and only Motorcraft or Racor filters.

I think he is saying that he is buying synthetic 5-40 at 23 and saying that it is the same price as shell dino unless buying in bulk, or am I reading this wrong.

Just an FYI, but Rotella is not the oil it used to be and isn't really worth the dollar anymore.
The only real issue I've seen with off-brand cheap oils is harder starting in the cold. That, and you have to read the labels closely. You'd be amazed how much of that stuff is recycled...

Think you can back that up with some facts and not just your opinion. Your opinion doesn't qualify as a testimonial to an oils quality or functional value!
