I have a project truck in pieces I've been trying to sell forever with no luck, so I've also offered it up for parts.
I have a guy interested in the engine and tranny but I have no idea what kind of value to put on it and he's not really tossing anything out there.
It's a 390 with a 3 speed from a 1974 F350 and it had 104K when it was pulled. It ran fine, my ex was just into redoing everything on his tow vehicles and this one was mine so it was not a priority and didn't get done.
engine/tranny combo. The value of it will depend alot on where in the country you are.
down in the south they would never bring $500 as a rebuildable core, maybe for a low miles known good runner though. At least thats how it is in my area.
I've seen 3 speeds for sale for $25 each a few times. With the engine already out of the truck and no way to hear it run, most would be buying it assuming it atleast needed bearings and rings. You'd be lucky to get $200 around here.
But up here in New England you could get alot more, like other people have said. I tried on craigslist for a long time to find a 390 to replace my 400, and the ones I found in that condition ranged all the way up to about 600$ (not saying that anyone was buying them for that, but either way), and at their cheapest were around 350$.
It depends also on how long ago you removed it, and how it's been stored. If you've had it out for a month it will be plenty fresh and could run soon, if it's been a decade every soft part on it will need to be redone.
If you just want it gone, ask for 450$ and go from there.

It's been out since '02 or '03 so it's been awhile! I think I may toss $500 at him and see where it gets me. Everyone wants to dicker anyway so now matter what I say to start, it will be lower in the end!
Thanks for all the help, I may be back more as I part out more pieces.
