Hostility

Have you ever noticed how hostile people can be when defending their views? I mean, we can all be like that at times, but have you ever talked namely to a Chevy enthusiast, and right when you've told them all the merits of a Ford over a Chevy, when they have no more logical arguments to offer in behalf of their beloved Chevy, they just get downright hostile? You know, the point at which they start making stuff up. Are we really that addicted to being right?

If someone is passionate about something, like a vehicle or brand, they will go to all ends to defend it. That's just human nature. It may not be that they're addicted to being right, they are just trying to protect/defend what is theirs, etc. There is also the possibility that I am totally wrong here.

I've noticed that about all brands and sizes. Our culture has made our vehicles an extension of our personalities. After market companies love this. The concept seems really petty to me. I like a clean attractive truck but it does get ridiculous. It's just a truck. I like brunets with big butts. If the next guy likes blonds with no butt, that's fine too. Long as I don't have to ride in his pansy *** Chevy!

my thoughts are all of the big three have their merits. I also think that they are all fairly competitive now adays.

It all boils done to which one is the better towing platform for the higher wt's.

So I point that out that theirs is ok, but for my purposes I choose ford.

To most people a vehicle is probably the second most expensive purchase they'll ever make. They're expensive to buy, maintain, and use.

So we, by nature, defend our decision to purchase said vehicle and rationalize the purchase far after the sale was made. People often take it to extremes.

"MY truck is the BEST truck on the road!" Is it really? Probably not. But because it happens to occupy a spot on his driveway, to him it MUST be! For so many a vehicle is a status symbol, and to imply that someone's truck isn't as capable, reliable, durable, or powerful as yours is sometimes taken as a personal attack.

It's not going to change either. As long as people spend so much on vehicles and consider them to be an indicator of their social status, they are going to get VERY defensive about them. I don't let it get to me.

So I take it for what it's worth. Honestly if someone's insecure enough to get upset about something as childish as the "mine is better than yours" thing, let them. People are always going to do it.

I have them both in driveway. They are both great trucks. As my business grows I need to haul heavier loads so I got a much more capable truck. My other is a Chevy 2500hd with duramax 05. serves me well, Just like ford is now.

I agree, we do like to defend our positions. But at some point we need to replace our vehicles. If we are so locked into one brand, we may not make the best choice. I used to think that Fords were crap, and used to use many of the acronyms. But then my dad bought the family a Ford Aerostar. At first the impression was poor, it was used and had a few issues that the previous owner neglected. But it served us well for many years, it now has more than triple the mileage of my grandparents Voyager, and yet it still runs good while the Voyager looks and acts like it has had a hard life.

I ended up buying an Aerostar of my own, which has proven to be a great vehicle. And my dad's Ranger has proven itself. My dad also has a Dodge Dakota, which has been fairly trouble free too. He used to have a Geo Prism, and it is a great car. 1995 model and still has the original AC charge. Most the stuff under the hood is original too, tune up parts aside.

I used to say to myself, Ok, so Ford has some good models, but I will never own a Taurus. Yet I now have a Taurus and while I haven't had it long, I so far really like the car. But I had made up in my mind that the car was junk a long time ago, and it took me actually going and test driving one to convince me otherwise.

I have come to the conclusion that Ford is like the American version of Honda. Most of the models do seem to have better than average reliability. This has been especially true since Bill Ford got booted out and Alan took over the company.

The only thing I have found is that some areas of the Fords do not seem very tolerant of neglect, transmissions namely. If the fluid gets replaced on a regular basis, they do well. If the trans is neglected, they self destruct. Some of the imports don't do that, at least not in the same way. You can neglect them and they keep going.
