Yessir, Thats how mine was until i got this stat too. I could barely get it into the NORMAL range. Now it stands a little left of straight up and when im mashing it through the pass, i can get into the M. I asked about if sitting in the R is normal after i swapped mine. Some said yes its supposed to be in the middle of the range, others said no i had air trapped under it. But i went ahead and left it, figure it was normal.

Might also want to check your sender too if you still think your readin is off. I replaced both the sender and stat at the same time so i feel pretty confident in my readings.

Straight up, and in the winter, 10 miles and straight up. The old one in winter after 100 miles still bottom of normal line. Never turned the fan off, now, shew, have to adjust the heat setting to straight up. You will enjoy in the winter, now I plow with the windows down.

Non Scientific observations in the word "NORMAL" ...

170* = "N" .. verified with laser thermometer at t-Stat head.
195* = "R" .. verified with laser thermometer at t-Stat head.

Verified with engine oil temp as a basis as I don't have a coolant temp gauge.

Question

Well I also dont use the heat. But I have a question, is there any other real reason or cientific test that the Diesel engines works better hotter, besides of that, that dieselsite claims?. If so, anyone has been better things with the 203*thermostat? Im really curios.

Yep ...

At idle, in park 170* injector pulse width is 1.2 ms.
At idle, in park 200* injector pulse width is 1.0 ms.

The best thing, needless to say is the really cold mornings. It still takes the same amount of time to heat up the engine but I can tell you there is a Hugh difference between 170* and 200* in cab heat.
