PCM FUBAR?
Yesterday I was killing some time and messing around with the truck and I decided to pull the kick panel to see how hard it is to get to the PCM from inside the cab. When I pulled the kick panel off I noticed the plastic plug that covers where you would install a chip was missing, which had me thinking WTF... PO said it had never been chipped. I decided to pull the PCM out to see if the wax coating was still over the contacts and it was for the most part but a few of the contacts have been scraped a little bit. I'm hoping they weren't scraped so deep that I'll have to get them re-tinned. I also noticed a little bit of rust between the bottom of the PCM and the metal case it rides in, which means water has been getting in the cab around the PCM... no bueno. The only evidence that the PCM has been messed with at all is a sticker under the hood saying it was re-flashed in 97, but I believe that is done thru the OBD2 port.
