Clutch slave cylinder

Hi Guys,

I'm doing a clutch replacement on a 95 ranger, 2.3L, 2wd, 5 speed manual. I have the clutch installed and a new slave cylinder.

Having problems getting the transmission to seat properly to the engine. This might be normal but it feels like I just can't get the last 1". The Autozone Duralast slave cylinder looks different than the original. It seems about 1/2" longer and has a blue plastic sleeve around the release bearing. Do I have to compress this somehow before seating the transmission? Do I have to remove the plastic sleeve before assembly? I suspect that I have an incorrect slave cylinder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
George

have you turned the shaft to get the splines to align? Takes some wiggle to get them in. I use 2 long studs to hold the trans so I can twist the shaft. If not careful you can bugger the pilot bearing pretty easy which will cause problems later. At least this is true on the 94 4.0 but I would guess the same for you.

There should not be any need to remove the plastic, look at your old one they should match up.
