I am looking for some ideas on how to light my box area at night so I can see when tying down motorcycles or whatever in the dark. The "cargo lights" on the back of the cab just don't cut it. I don't want a roll bar or headache rack, so those are out. I did consider putting some battery powered LED tap lights inside my tool box lid so I wouldn't have to run wires or worry about weather or thieves.
Tell me what you have done to light your cargo area and please post pics if you can. Thanks!
Maybe attach some small lights beneath the bed rails?
That was my other thought, putting some LED strip lights under the bed rails. Problem is that the light from those would not shine directly on what I am tying down. I may still do it though.
You mentioned you have a tool box....I would mount a 12v driving light or something to that effect to the box. maybe on an arm or something that you can reposition as needed.

I've been wanting to do this for a while now. Mostly because I'm running a tonneau cover and can't see ANYTHING in there - even during the day. RECON makes a fancy kit, but it's 100 bucks (yikes). I was thinking if I were to do it, I might consider wiring the lights to turn on when the tailgate is opened (with a kill switch of course - so they're not left on if I roll w/o the gate for some reason).
I have an aluminum bed cover and needed some light. So, I put two Wally World lights on the back of my tool box and one inside with an on/off switch inside the tool box. It was inexpensive and lights up the both boxes.
You can see one of the lights in the upper left corner of the pic.
