All started with a whole body shake when braking and under 25MPH. SO I'm thinking brakes for sure, so I replaced the rear rotors and pads, had the front rotors turned and replace the pads even though they had LOTS of pad left. Didn't fix the problem. Finally, found out that I had a bad rear U-joint, one spider had busted the seal, lost all the grease and had siezed. So new u-joint installed, no more vibration. I then installed my DP Tuner F5. However, it now feels like the back end is always "loose" when crusing down the road , anywhere between 55 - 70MPH, and either empty or pulling the gooseneck horse trailer. I have checked the tire PSI and both have been run at 60 and 65 PSI, I have airbags on the back, one fill point and have run them at 20-50 PSI, no changes. I have read that it might be a busted rear spring. Is there anyway that I can check them or is it really obvious if one is broken? Any other ideas for things to check would be appreciated.
Hey Buddy. I think 60 psi is too low if you have E rated tires. I keep 80 psi in my rear tires all the time, so I don't have to change the psi every few days. You need to keep the sidewalls from flexing while towing.
If a spring is broke it should be fairly easy to see.It should be one of the top leafs
Another thing to check is the pins and eye bushings on the spring
A broken center bolt or loose u-bolt could cause the problem but it will normally run down the road crooked
