Just pulled my starter

My starter was not doing its job. One click and no more. I put my hand on the solenoid and starter while my son tried it again.

To my surprise all that happened was a big spark flying off the red wires!!

The solenoid control post is shorted to the body of the starter. Taking it in tomorrow.

BTW, any tricks to getting the top starter bolt back in?

You can get it in quite easily... you just need a swivel adapter. A 1/4inch swivel is best.

Found it easier than I thought to get back in.

Probably would have left it out otherwise. LOL

If I remember right just used a long extension.

When you leave bolts out, especialy on items with that much torque, you are asking for trouble when you least expect or need it. If it takes you an hour it's better than a broken starter housing on I 10.

(knock's on wood) Thank the good lord I never seem to have these problems. I guess it's my long skinny arms that help on this motor.

I did break the stinking egg shell battery terminal on the solenoid though. Now that's a chinsely POS. Had to replace the whole starter.

Your right. My starter went out a remote area while raining. If it had
been a PITA I'd have left it out til I got home then tried again.

If I still couldn't get it in, I would put a little fur...UMM UHH..nevermind
